Kyoko Speechly / Half a century of London
Kyoko left Japan in 1966 and travelled the world before moving to London.
From the late 1970s, she worked as an interpreter for Vidal Sassoon and was active in the academy, where techniques such as the firefly and wedge were born.
She also accompanied the Vidal Sassoon (VS) team on their tours of Japan, acting as a liaison between the Japanese and London beauty industries.
Later, after a busy career interpreting at all the major London beauty colleges, she set up her own agency with a trusted colleague.
She retired from interpreting in the mid-1990s and now concentrates on running Coco Promotions.
