Course Overview

The 30-week Diploma course is available to UK / Irish residents only.

There is no finer beginning for anyone wanting to make their first mark on the world of hair than the 30-week Sassoon Diploma course. Recognised worldwide as the ultimate in modern hair education, every key cutting and colouring technique that underpins the Sassoon philosophy will be passed on to you, the newest generation of qualified hair professionals. 

The course is divided into six in-depth stages covering all of the subjects needed to provide you with a fast track to hairdressing success. The nature and content of each stage develop as you progress through the course. However, some things remain constant; personal guidance and mentoring from a Sassoon instructor throughout all work sessions; theory and practical assignments to assess your progress at regular intervals; and a personal appraisal at the end of each stage to ensure you are achieving the learning goals Sassoon requires.

Note: Available to UK / Irish residents only. Students must be at least 18 years of age to apply for this course.

For your NVQ qualification, you will be formally assessed throughout your course and your knowledge will be tested throughout by online testing.   

This NVQ qualification can be very difficult for some students; a lot of practical, theory and written exams need to be completed to gain this qualification. If you are not successful in the full qualification, you will be given a certificate of accreditation towards NVQ Level 3 for the units you have attained.

Level

No formal experience is necessary, although the learner will be required to be hard-working and passionate about hair!

Stage 1 (Weeks 1-5)

This stage will introduce you to the fundamental techniques that underpin all the subsequent stages that follow:

• Sassoon history & philosophy 

• Shampooing, blow drying and finishing with products

• Styling and setting techniques 

• Head shape and bone structure assessment

• Client consultation technique  

• Excellent client care

• Technical theory 

• Personal appraisal

Note that after a period of understanding the dynamics of hair, the basic precision cutting skills are quickly introduced:

Stage 2 (weeks 6-10)

This stage continues the learning process and introduces new cutting and colouring disciplines:

• Work sessions on all ABC Cut techniques

• Recap on blow drying/consultation lecture

• Continuation of technical theory 

• Colour formulas

• Colour charts

• Continuation of styling and setting techniques

• Personal appraisal 

• Expanding your product knowledge

Stage 3 (Weeks 11-15)

This stage gives you access to the unique world of men’s haircutting and a continuation of women’s cutting and colouring techniques.
